Moulin Rouge review

When I first saw Moulin Rouge, a couple of hours ago, I was totally stunned.
And I still am, this movie is; Exciting, beautiful, fantastic, gorgeous, Incredibly well-made, a joy for your ears, a viewing pleasure and sooooooo gay......

Okay, that last one was a bit shallow but it’s kinda is true. However, this movie is so amazing that it doesn’t matter.
Moulin Rouge tells the story of a famous nightclub in Paris named........The Red Windmill, When a young writer named Christian comes to Paris, he winds up writing a theater production for the Moulin Rouge. During this process he falls in love with the starring lady, and top attraction of the club......Satine. Unfortunatly there is this wealthy duke who also falls in love with her, and even though she loves Christian, he keeps sweating her for some action.

You’re right the story isn’t original, and after seeing it I thought it was the movie’s only weak point. But my friend Dirkson(you know, that funky homosupermarket) said: ,,this “fairytale” story is required to make the entire experience complete” And he is so right.
They could have fitted it with a “clever” “intelligent” plot, but this fairytale story fits the film so well, it complements the enitre experience.

This movie is a big musical, with beautiful exciting songs and amazing choreography. In the midst of this action you kinda forget that there are people acting in this film (not noticable though..) . I mean everybody does a fine job, but no super achievements. But none of this matters, because the actors are supporting the film, they aren’t here for there own succes nor to become famous (ahem....Russel Crow).

So what else can I tell you? Well, I watched the DVD, and it is full of cool extra’s like: multi-angle dances and interviews, deleted scene’s and biographies etc etc etc.

Slowly however, I will tell you why I’m not gonna give this film a perfect score.
There are 2 reasons:

1) This film is singel-handedly responsible for the “Lady Marmelade”-hype that I oh so despise.
2) The humor kind of got on my nerves. John Leguizamo is funny, but the others are getting irritating and not funny, to a point where this “silly, slapstick humor” that occurs in the movie gets really annoying. But this is really personal.

So that’s it! This film will receive 4,5 honourable Supa P-Boy Stars.(YEAH! They’re back)

For the stats:

Moulin Rouge
Director: Baz “visionary” Luhrmann
Starring: Ewan “NOBI ONE” Mcgregor, Nicole Kidman, John Leguizamo, Jim Broadbent and KYLIE MINOGUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ps: Yo Dirkson! This is all the lovin’ you’re gonna get for a while.
