Monsters Inc. Review

All of the 86 minutes that I spend watching Monsters Inc, I kept comparing this new animated film from the makers of A Bug’s Life and Toy Story, with Shrek.
Shrek was the film about the swamp ogre who meets the donkey, you remember right? Right!, well, I’m not saying Shrek was grounbreaking or super original, but the animations were amazing and it totally revived the animated-film. And Monsters Inc exploits this very well.

I’m not saying it’s a bad film. It’s a great film, it’s really funny (not counting a hand-full of mised jokes, that really aren’t anywhere near funny) , and the animation is top-notch, even better than Shrek.

Now for the plot: Monsters Inc. plays in another dimension or something, where monsters have the ability to use doors to enter the bedrooms of children in our dimension(yeah, I know)
Here they have to scare the kids and collect their screams, who on their turn are used as energy in the monster world (yeah, I know). The scaring is the job of the scarers(that’s a professions, and one that pays damn well, and gives to major popularity with the “normal” monsters) Sully is the best scarer in the whooooole (monster) world, and he’s helped by his buddy Mike Wazowsky. When during an accident a kid enters the monster dimension, hell breaks loose (Oh, did I forget to tell you that when a monster is touched by a normal kid he dies? Oops, my bad) Mike and Sully figure out that the kid actually doesn’t provide any danger, and that monsters don’t die on impact. However it’s too late, everybody is after her, and our 2 friends will have to return the kid to the normal world.

Damn!, that’s the longest plot I’ve ever written.

As I said, it’s not a bad film, it’s funny, beautifully animated, and the voice acting (and actor choice) is perfect. Billy Crystal (oh, I miss his movies.) and John Goodman provide the voices for Mike and Sully. This really perfect and I couldn’y have thought of 2 better actors.

But then again, there’s Shrek. With it’s innovative animation, and even funnier plot. And I miss that leap forward in Monsters Inc. And as if that isn’t enough, there are a lot of things not explained, that don’t make sense. If there are only monsters, why do they have human names? Are they transformed humans or something? Nor do they explain how this monsters world came to be.
I know what your thinking: “It’s a frickin’ kids-flick, stop bitching!!!!!!!” And i say: NO!, this movie is really nice, but it should’ve been worked out better.

So, I’m not gonna wait any longer, here is my final judgement:

Monsters Inc will receive 3,75 / 5 Supa P-Boy Stars.
If you haven’t seen Shrek make that 4,25. And if you’re under 10 make that 4,5. And if your under 10 and haven’t seen Shrek make that 5 outta
