Jay & Silent Bob Strike
Back review
After seeing this movie,
I almost feel ashamed to write this review, but hey, fuck it. jay
and Silent Bob wouldn't mind: this is going to be a positive review.
Damn, now none of you are actually going to read this thing....note
to self: don't give away your conclusion at the beginning of the
review....
Okay, for the 2 (out
of 5 who visit this site) of you that are going to read this, J&SB
is the latest Kevin Smith flick, the director of such modern day
classics as Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma. Alright, they're not really
modern day classics, but they are cult classics, and great ones
at that.
Although Kevin Smith movies have already been wacky, none has come
close to the wackiness of J&SB. This movie is more like "Hot
Shots" than Clerks, or even Dogma, but this is definitely a
good thing. Unlike movies like "Scary Movie", J&SB
does not rely on simple so called "fart-jokes". The humour
in J&SB is actually quite subtle at times, and simply brilliant
at all others. You can notice that there has really been thought
about these jokes.
For newcomers in the
View Askew universe, a lot of the inside jokes will be lost though.
These are jokes referring to the other Kevin Smith movies, and Jay
& Silent Bob is filled to the brim with them. Not that people
who've never seen a Kevin Smith movie won't be able to enjoy the
movie tough, it's just that some of the jokes will be lost on them.
The coolest thing about
this movie, however, is that there is NO boring or slightly not
amusing moment in the entire movie. The first 30 minutes alone contain
enough jokes to fill an entire movie, and this thing last about
two hours!
Also, I'd like to show
my respect to every actor in this movie. Anyone willing to take
a punch at him/herself this way kicks ass in my opinion. I see people
like James Van Der Beek, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in a whole new
perspective after seeing this movie.
The downside? Well,
can't really think of one, actually. This is one of the funniest
movies I've ever seen, up there with Hot Shots 1&2 and the first
Naked Gun movies. Not as good as Monthy Python, but hey, what is,
right? If you have nay sense for humour, you'll be enjoying this
movie. A must see.
